PNG images ? Optimise Losslessly + Create WebP Versions = noise

Wordpress LScache Plugin: PNG images ? Optimise Losslessly + Create WebP Versions = noise

Last Updated on: Wed, 15 Apr 2026 00:00:02
With Optimise Losslessly and Create WebP Versions both ON, Im finding that in uploaded PNG images, solid colours are showing obvious noise in the .webp versions. The resized .png versions however remain noiseless. I expected the .webp images to also be noiseless and basically look indistinguishable from the .png version. I also tested with Optimise Losslessly off, and the exact same quality noisy .webp images were produced. I also tested with WordPress Image Quality Control set to different levels but this had no affect (as I would have expected, as I understand this only applies to .jpgs). It appears that none of the Image Optimization Settings apply to PNG images, and some sort of default 90% reduction is being applied to .webps produced from .pngs. Can you explain this behavior and advise how to achieve lossless .webp versions of .png images? Thanks! ? and thanks for the great plugin, not to mention Web Server! The page I need help with: http://localhost @CacheCrawler ? could somebody take a look at this?
